(Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria)

View of the city centre and Golden RoofThere are a number of large shopping malls located within the Austrian city of Innsbruck, along with many central shops and busy markets. Tourists will find a wealth of shopping choices in Innsbruck when looking for souvenirs, with gifts including everything from beautiful Swarovski crystalware from the Tyrol region, to exquisite Austrian jewellery and drinking goblets decorated with local scenes.

Also popular in Innsbruck is chocolate covered gingerbread (goldschindel) and boxed Mozart chocolates, along with schnapps and stuffed mythical German rabbit-like 'Wolpertinger' creatures, influenced by its proximity to the border of Germany.

Where to Shop

The main shopping centres in Innsbruck include the centrally located Rathaus Gallerien, along with the nearby malls of DEZ-Einkaufszentrum and Einkaufcenter Sillpark.

However, to combine shopping with sightseeing, take a stroll around the Old Town area, and along the pedestrianised thoroughfare of Maria Theresien Strasse, and also the Herzog Friedrich Strasse.

Close to Innsbruck and within the neighbouring village of Neu-Rum are a number of converted shopping warehouses, well worth exploring if you have the time.

Do bear in mind that many shops close at lunchtime on Saturday (or close at 17:00 on the first Saturday each month), not opening again until 09:00 on Monday morning.
